CHI Health St. Elizabeth Earns STAR Program® CertificationJanuary 28 2016
CHI Health St. Elizabeth announced today that it has earned its STAR Program® Certification from the Massachusetts-based Oncology Rehab Partners, leading experts in the field of survivorship care. The STAR Program offers specialized cancer rehabilitation services to survivors of all forms of cancer.
“We are very proud to be the first in Lincoln to offer this cancer rehabilitation service to our patients,” says Mike Hopkins, director of oncology services at CHI Health St. Elizabeth. “This is another example of how we are leading the way in cancer care.”
To receive its certification, staff at St. Elizabeth from a variety of disciplines--including physicians, physical therapists, speech therapists, dieticians, mental health professionals, and others--had to complete extensive training focused on improving patient care outcomes. Specially-trained caregivers work together to create a personalized rehabilitation plan for each patient. The goal is to increase strength and energy, alleviate pain and improve daily function for patients.
The healthcare services offered by the STAR Program are covered by most insurance providers, including Medicare. Survivors can begin the program before treatment, during treatment or even several years beyond treatment.
“Survivors at any stage of their recovery can benefit from this program,” says Hopkins. “Cancer survivors often have to deal with side effects from treatment that can diminish their quality of life. We have been able to help survivors return to the activities they loved prior to treatment.”
